FINCA LES AUBAGUES

Finca Les Aubagues

41⁰9’57’’N 0⁰47’7’’E. The plot has 13 ha (32.12 acres) and is mainly positioned facing North. As its name in Catalan indicates it occupies the shaded part of the mountain where there is less sunshine and therefore the vineyard enjoys certain freshness which allows the grapes to maintain good acidity so important in a hot climate and it’s noticeable in the wine.
Out of the 13 ha, 7 ha are planted into a vineyard of mainly carignan (carinyena) and grenache (garnatxa) with a little bit of cabernet sauvignon and white grenache. The vineyard consists of bush or goblet vines and trellis trained vines planted respectively on the slope and on terraces. There is quite a substantial difference between the lowest part of the vineyard at 290 meters above the sea level and the highest part at 400 meters.
The vineyard is surrounded by a forest, olive trees and garrigue (shrubs and herbs typical to the Mediterranean) and of course it shares its space with diverse animals and birds of the area.
In the fields we can find two kinds of slate roc’s: in one side the slates from the Carboniferous times, more greasy and slimy and more abundant in the DOQ Priorat and present in the strata and in the other side the corneal and pigallate slates typical of the metamorphism of contact with the granodioritic batholic of Falset.
